Learning How to Learn with Joy

Welcome to Wisdomgame. Our purpose is to educate, entertain and enlighten.

Human history is the history of war, but moving along with that bloody record of men reaching distinction fighting for glory and to protect their city, state, and country is the history of mind. This history is filled with thinkers who pondered questions such as “What is man?”, “Who are we?” and “What am I?” These minds were driven by the desire to understand their environment and to understand themselves in that environment.

No matter how secluded or introverted a person, the quest for understanding is done in relation to the whole – in relationship. Perhaps the most remembered line of John Donne’s poem underscores this. “No man is an island.” We are each born into a milieu, a time and a place with others. What’s fantastic and what concerns us at Wisdomgame is that once you begin to understand more about yourself, understand your history, your environment, your life, then your mind opens and you receive and understand more. With this mental expansion comes a great emotional awakening. This is the joy of learning.

Our educational system traces its beginnings from Homer and the Greek philosophers Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle. It is reconstructed when Charlemagne brings Alcuin from Britain, and spreads its roots to all Americans with Horace Mann in the 19th century. However, for many people their schooling wasn’t filled with Socratic dialog, and it wasn’t very uplifting. In fact, for some it was pure drudgery and so when they got out of school at whatever degree, they quit learning, and in their lives they never experience the joyful emotions involved with learning.

And so it often happens that someone will obtain a professional degree, live their life quite successfully, and yet they never feel fulfilled. What they really wanted to do was paint, play music, or be contemplative, but they never had the time. Life closed them. Their minds never opened and their emotions never blossomed. Our goal here at Wisdomgame is to change that and so we promote that a person’s education actually only begins when they make a conscious decision to learn what they want to know.

When the blossoming of the intellect is coupled with the growth of joy in the emotions a person
comprehends that understanding is the most powerful force in the world. And this can happen at any age. There is no boundary on when to start and there is no limit on quantity, quality, or intensity of joy experienced from learning. The key is to have patience with you. Understanding means “to stand under.” Be easy on yourself, but as Goethe has many times been quoted: “Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it."

The goal of Wisdomgame is to educate, entertain, and enlighten.
